Baroque viola

Model inspired by the Amati brothers.

Antonio and Girolamo Amati were the sons of Andrea, the founding father of violin making in Cremona.

They carried on the tradition from Andrea, at the same time exploring new models to meet the needs of the musicians of their time.

This model, measuring 41.5 cms is assembled in Baroque style.

The neck is nailed and glued to the frame of ribs.

The fingerboard, in maple, is shorter than on modern-day instruments.

It is decorated, as is the tail-piece, with the same fine purfling as on the back and top, with geometrical patterns typical of the Baroque period.

This model is quite wide, and gives a deep and warm sound.
